- Imparting awareness to the public about various diseases, preventive measures, family Welfare Services, Immunization etc.
- Organizing various programmes as part of National/International Days related to health.
- Giving news to print, visual and social media regarding various health subjects and programmes.
- Organizing and conducting training programmes to the staff and public.
- Supervision of IEC activities carried out though subordinate intuitions.
- Producing various IEC Materials like posters, Notices, Booklets and distributing them.
Functions of Sub-Centres

House Visit Activities (Field Activities)
- Visit the sub-centre area and register pregnant women and children
- Provide immunization to the pregnant woman and 0-15 age children.
- Ante-natal examination & Distribution of iron, zinc, calcium and Folic acid tablets.
- Detect High risk pregnant women & Children and refer to higher institutions.
- Identify & evaluate the malnourished children in the age group of 0-15 years and take necessary action.
- Promote Breast feeding.
- Awareness and motivation about Family Planning and gave services to the clients.
- Active involvements in all National health Programmes.
- Prevention & Control of Communicable and non Communicable diseases.
- Make awareness to the public’s through Health Education Classes.
- Proper reporting in time to the concerned higher authorities.
Sub centre Clinics
- Conducting clinics in all sub centres from 2.PM to 4.PM.
- Proper entering of datas collected from the field.
- conducting immunization camps.
- Submit reports to the higher authorities.
- Attending all conferences related to Health activities.
District Leprosy Unit
The District Leprosy Unit is conducting leprosy prevention activities in the district led by the District Medical Officer. District Leprosy Unit contains:
District Leprosy Officer – One
Assistant Leprosy Officer – Two
Non Medical Supervisor – Four
The District Leprosy Officer is responsible for overall control and coordination of activities.
Assistant Leprosy at District Leprosy Unit helps DLO for the activities regarding NLEP activities.
ALO at the General Hospital attached to Government Medical College Manjeri take care of the Leprosy patients registered at the Institution and conducts awareness activities.
There are four non-medical supervisor posts in the district.

Oversees Leprosy.
NMS works at the DMO. Collects and coordinates reports of national leprosy prevention programs from all over the district and sends them to the State Leprosy Officer. Helps the ALO and DLOs to coordinate and oversee the entire leprosy eradication process at the district level.
Ponnani, Tirur and Perinthalmanna NMSs in their assigned areas, provide medical care to confirmed patients, keeping track of their records, prevention of disability, reducing their difficulties by way of getting government assistance to the patients, school awareness, public awareness, training to health workers. Carries out responsibilities, such as supervision NLEP activities at peripheral institutions.
National Vector Born Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP)/
Services
In order to control Vector born diseases like Malaria, Dengue fever, Filairasis, Chikungunea, Japanees Encephalitis, Westnile fever, KDF, Scrub typhis, Zica Virus and Kala Azar effectively conducting educational activities and control measures. In Muncipality area Control Measures are taken by district DVC Unit and in rural areas, by Community healthcentres and primary health centres.
Disease surveillance, ensuring apt treatment in time, disease control by initiating integrated vector control activities, follow up activities etc are conducted by district vector control unit in urban areas and peripheral health institutions at rural areas. District Malaria Officer with the support of District Surveillance Officer (DSO) co-ordinates the programme.

Services
Diagnostic services in District/General Hospital, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, Family Health Centres in connection with National Programmes are RNTCP, NMEP, Filaria Control, NLEP.
- RNTCP: Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme. In this sputum is examined under microscopy for diagnosis and follow-up.
- National Malaria Eradication Programme: In this Malaria active blood smears and passive blood smears are examining under microscope.
- Filaria Control Programme: Blood Smears taken in the night are examining under microscope
- National Leprosy Control Programme: Skin smears are examining under microscope.
- For other communicable disease, non-communicable diseases diagnosis are doing in different sections such as clinical pathology, heamatoloty, bkochemistry and serology.
Visiting all institutions and inspecting laboratories to make sure all laboratory services are given in good quality manner. reviewing all functioning of laboratories. Confirming Malaria positive smears and sending them for cross checking to central Malaria Lab, Thiruvananthapuram and Regional Lab Chennai.
